From the Principal's desk
Congratulations to our new School Captains for 2022, as they officially received their badges at our Monday morning school assembly on the 10th March. We are proud to have Claudia Gallo, Nathan Zappia, Tanah Burkinshaw and Claudia Pulvermueller leading our students this year.
A reminder that RAT kits are still available to collect from the front office til the end of Term 2, for all students. Parents/carers can collect these kits and are encouraged to routinely use them twice a week, before school, to test your child for Covid-19. The use of these kits has been very successful in reducing the spread of Covid-19 amongst our community and together, we can continue to look after the health and safety of all students, staff and parents/carers in our community.
Congratulations to the following students for ‘playing by the rules’ during week 6:
- Nico Jackson (Foundation / Year 1)
- Ratu Damuni (Year 1 / 2)
- Lewis Baxter-Smith (Year 3)
- Ava Best (Year 4)
Congratulations to the following students for ‘helping someone in need’ during week 7:
- Loveila Havea (Foundation / Year 1)
- Darcy Jenner (Year 1 / 2)
- Moana Soni (Year 3)
- Clint Smith (Year 4)
The year 3 /4 students were very excited last Thursday as they headed off to camp. The students enjoyed exploring pioneer settlement, discovering more about Aboriginal culture, cruising along the Murray River on a paddle steamer, completing a discovery trail, seeing the Heartbeat of the Murray sound and light show and dressed up then posed for the camera while at the Old Time Photo Parlour. The students represented our College with pride and it has been so pleasing to see our students enjoy being able to attend school camps once again.
On Friday the 18th March, our students and staff celebrated National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence, with this year’s theme being ‘Kindness Culture: It starts with you.’ Kindness is a key element for bullying prevention and promotes inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging. It is an opportunity to teach what is kindness and demonstrate kind behaviour, both of which play important roles in bullying prevention. Together we can make a change. Everyone has a role to play for bullying prevention.
On Monday 22nd March our students and staff celebrated Harmony Day by wearing orange or traditional, cultural clothing. Students enjoyed a range of food and activities on the day. Thankyou to our staff, SRC, Clontarf and volunteers for coordinating such a fun day for everyone.
The National Immunisation Program is occurring again this year and provides an opportunity for Year 7 and Year 10 secondary students to receive free immunisations, administered by the Swan Hill Rural City Council immunisation providers. Secondary school students are at an age when a vaccine will be most effective and provide protection before possible exposure to a disease. Only Year 7 and 10 students who have returned a signed, written consent form from their parent/carer will receive a vaccination. The vaccinations that will be administered this year are:
Year 7 – Human papillomavirus (HPV) – course of 2 vaccines, 6 months apart.
Diptheria, tetanus and pertussis (whooping cough) – single dose.
Year 10 – Meningococcal ACWY – single dose.
If your child has not brought home their consent form, please remind your child to take one home or you can collect a new one from the front office. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the College on 5026 3704.
On the 10th March we said a tearful farewell to one of our amazing Education Support Staff, Sharon Weekley. Sharon brought a calm, positive and friendly approach to her role and will be thoroughly missed. On behalf of everyone in our Robinvale College school community we wish Sharon all the best for the future.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank and acknowledge Laura Masasso, who finished in her roles as Wellbeing Coordinator and Chaplain on the 23rd March. Laura had a great rapport with the students and staff at Robinvale College and dedicated herself to our community. On behalf of everyone in our school community we wish Laura all the best for a well-deserved break and in the next stage of her life journey.
Please join me in welcoming Dylan Murphy to the College in the role of Buildings and Grounds person, alongside Adam.
