Robinvale Library School Holiday Program
From the Principal's Desk
It has been a busy final couple of weeks of Term One at Robinvale College.
Student Led Conferences
Last week, our Student Led Conferences were a great success. Students reported enjoying the opportunity to share their Individual Student Engagement Plan (ISEP) goals with their parents and carers. Parents and carers were appreciative of the opportunity to learn more about their child’s learning and build positive working relationships with teaching staff.
In our ongoing efforts to constantly improve what we do, we will be providing an opportunity for the community to provide feedback about Student Led Conferences through the College Facebook page soon.
Cross Country
The Cross Country was enjoyed by both staff and students with the students in Green House being the overall winners on the day. It was great to see and feel the positive atmosphere during the awards ceremony at the end of the day. Thanks to all the staff that contributed to making the event an enjoyable and engaging experience.
Easter Bonnet Parade
On Tuesday, the F-2 Community held an Easter Bonnet Parade. Students looked amazing as they paraded in their Easter Bonnets. Staff and students were also entertained by a performance put on by some of the students. Even though parents were unable to attend on site, the Parade was live streamed through our Facebook account with over 100 viewers being able to watch the parade as it took place. It was hard for the judges to decide the prizes for best bonnet for each year level.
Attendance Awards
Congratulations to the students from the F-4 Community for their outstanding attendance. Many students have achieved 90% or above attendance for Term 1. Year 1/ 2 won the class award for attendance last week with 90% attendance overall.
Welcome
In Term Two we welcome two new staff members to the College, Melissa Borg will be teaching in the 1 /2 classroom. Aye Dathong will join us as our Science Lab Tech.
Farewell
We are farewelling Antoinette Tippet, School Nurse. Thank you, Antoinette for your dedication to our students during your time at the College. The support you have provided to many of our Senior students and the programs and events that you have brought to the College have been greatly appreciated. We wish you well.
We also say goodbye to one of our teachers, Richard Snel. Richard was only with us for a short while but managed to gain the positive regard of many of our students in that time. Good luck Richard.
National Immunisation Program
As part of The National Immunisation Program many of our Year 7 and Year 10 secondary students received free immunisations, administered by the Swan Hill Rural City Council immunisation providers last week. Secondary school students are at an age when a vaccine will be most effective and provide protection before possible exposure to a disease. It was good to see many families making the most of this opportunity. If your child has missed out this term they will be returning in October.
RAT kits
A reminder that RAT kits are still available to collect from the front office until the end of week 4 Term 2, for all students. Parents/carers can collect these kits and are encouraged to routinely use them twice a week, before school, to test your child for Covid-19. The use of these kits has been very successful in reducing the spread of Covid-19 amongst our community and together, we can continue to look after the health and safety of all students, staff and parents/carers in our community.
Last day of Term 1
Friday 8 April will be the last day of Term 1. Students will be dismissed at 2.30pm. Buses will leave early, except Euston buses. Any Euston students who are unable to be collected early will be supervised at the bus stop.
First day of Term Two will be Tuesday, 26 April.
On behalf of the College, we wish all our students a safe and enjoyable holiday.

Purpose

Policy
Staff at Robinvale College, including teachers, education support staff, office staff, the Assistant Principals and Principal are committed to providing a positive and supportive learning environment for all our students. Our staff take their work very seriously and feel privileged to be able to play an important role in each child’s education.
Parents/carers and visitors to our school also have an important role to play in fostering a safe and inclusive environment for the entire school community.
Respectful behaviours within the school community
All staff at Robinvale College have a right to a safe and supportive work environment, and we expect that parents/carers and visitors behave in an appropriate and respectful manner at all times.
The Department of Education and Training has outlined expectations on parent/carer behaviour within Victorian government school communities in the Respectful Behaviours within the School Community Policy.
Unacceptable behaviours
When parents and carers engage in unacceptable behaviours against a staff member of another member of the school community, this can affect their health, safety and wellbeing.
Unacceptable behaviours include, but are not limited to:
- being violent or threatening violence of any kind, including physically intimidating behaviour such as aggressive hand gestures or invading another person’s personal space
- speaking or behaving in a rude, aggressive or threatening way, either in person, via email, social media, or over the telephone
- sending demanding, rude, confronting or threatening letters, emails or text messages
- discriminatory or derogatory comments
- the use of social media or public forums to make inappropriate or threatening remarks about the school, staff or students.
At the Principal’s discretion, unacceptable behaviour may be managed by:
- requesting that the parties attend a mediation or counselling sessions
- implementing specific communication protocols
- written warnings
- conditions of entry to school grounds or school activities
- exclusion from school grounds or attendance at school activities
- reports to Victoria Police
- legal action
The Principal may also seek support from Department of Education and Training staff when managing unacceptable parent or carer behaviour.
Respectfully raising complaints
We welcome complaints from parents and carers if they are communicated in a respectful and constructive way. Complaints and concerns raised with us can help our school community by providing feedback to improve how our school operates.
When raising a complaint or concern with us, Robinvale College expects all members of our community to act consistently with this policy, our Statement of Values and School Philosophy and the Department’s Respectful Behaviours within the School Community Policy.
For information on how to raise a complaint or concern with our school, refer to our Robinvale College Complaints Policy, which can be found on our College website or you can request a hard copy from our front office.
The Family Engagement in Learning is also a useful Department resource outlining how parents and carers can best engage with schools to provide feedback, suggestions and complaints.

Welcome
Hi! My name is Mel Borg and I will begin teaching at Robinvale College in Term 2. I am moving with my family from Narre Warren South in the South East suburbs, but I grew up 25km North of Melbourne in a suburb called Craigieburn.
I have been a primary school teacher for 7 years, completing my Bachelor of Education (Primary) through Curtin University. As soon as I completed my degree, I began teaching a Year 1/2 class at the school where I completed my internship – Beaconsfield Upper Primary School. I then went on to teach Foundation for four years, Grade 1 for a year and Year 3/4 last year and Term 1 of this year. As hard as it is for me to say goodbye to my school community, my family and I are ready for a tree change and I am really looking forward to teaching Year 1/2 from Term 2 at Robinvale College.
I really enjoy going to the movies, hanging out with family and friends, playing netball, crafting with my Cricut machine and reading, especially crime thriller and mystery novels; I love suspense!
My first impression of Robinvale College is that it is a beautiful small community that is very warm and welcoming; the school has a really good feel to it. I am excited to be a part of it all and getting to know everyone 😊
