College Photo Day ~ Monday 23rd May
Our College Photo day is this coming Monday 23rd May.
A reminder that supervision for students is not available until 8:30am each morning. Please do not drop students off at school earlier than this. Staff who are onsite before this time are not trained teachers and do not have legal duty of care to supervise students. Teachers are on duty from 8:30am each morning.
Congratulations to Lyla Ikafanga who has been nominated as a Junior School Captain, alongside Molly Bivolcheff.
On behalf of the Robinvale College community, I would like to say farewell to Sue Neyland (tutor) and Nathan Geaboc (Science teacher). Both staff have made the decision to resign from teaching, for personal and health reasons. We wish both of them all the best for the next stage of their life journeys. We are currently advertising for replacement staff to fill all vacancies.
Teacher shortages is unfortunately a common problem across many schools in Victoria. Covid has further compounded this shortage of qualified staff and being a rural and remote school, we are further impacted than most by this shortage. We have worked hard to maximise staff recruitment over the years including partnering with Manangatang P-12 to share teachers, partnering with Nexus, Melbourne Uni Internship Program, Teacher for Australia and LaTrobe University to accept pre-service teachers and also attach financial incentives to teacher vacancies, to assist with recruitment. These arrangements have helped significantly in addressing the staffing gap and we continue to think outside the square on how we can ensure all students have the most qualified person teaching them and prioritise minimal disruptions on student learning, as much as we can. Due to recent staffing changes however, we are needing to combine the 2 year 10 classes. This does not impact on students’ elective choices, VCE early entry options or progress with their learning. From the 28th May, the 2 classes will combine to form 1 class. We still maintain acceptable class sizes. Students will still get their semester reports written by their current teachers and during parent/teacher interviews, parents and carers will have the option to meet with current and new teachers for discussions. The students have been notified of this upcoming change. If you have any questions, I encourage you to call me to discuss further.
Has your child been absent from school? Please remember to notify your child’s Learning Coach or the front office, of the reason for your child’s absence. With the colder weather already upon us and Covid still a presence in our lives, it is good to see that parents/carers are keeping their child home when they are unwell. At school, we continue to follow regular hygiene measures with students and we do still have some free RAT kits available at the front office, if you would like to come and collect one.
This week is Education Support (ES) week. This is an opportunity for us to say a very big thank you to all of our Education Support staff. ES staff are the backbone of the school. They can be found across all areas of the school, making a tremendous difference to the day to day running of our College. On behalf of everyone in our Robinvale College community, I would like to say thank you to every single one of our ES staff for everything they do. We are grateful to work alongside them every day.

Robinvale College Basketball Club
Mr. McDonald is in the process of building a school basketball club targeted at developing the individual and team skills of Robinvale College students aged from 10 – 16. Due to staffing for the club there will only be 21 students accepted for in total to make three teams: Under 14s boys, Under 16s boys, and Under 14 Girls.
Try outs to join the club will be held on Wednesday 18/05 and wednesday 1/06 at 4:35pm in the College gym. Future practice dates will be discussed after teams are finalised.
This is the perfect chance to improve your skills for the upcoming summer basketball season and give yourself an edge over everyone else in Robinvale. If this club becomes a success we are hoping to form a school basketball team to compete with other schools in the area.
VCAL Health and Wellbeing Activities
My name is Michael Chittasorn, I have presented a PowerPoint to Foundation and Grade 4 students about health and wellbeing. In the upcoming weeks I will be presenting the PowerPoint to the Grade 2 and 3 students. The PowerPoint was about how they can recognise health and wellbeing. I have also enjoyed a fun activity of making playdough with the Foundation and Grade 4 students.
My name is Joseph Mezzatesta and I have been working on a PowerPoint presentation for student and staff wellbeing. I presented the PowerPoint to Year 10s last week and in the coming weeks I will present to the Year 9s. The presentation is about health and wellbeing, promoting kids to stay active and healthy in the community.
On the 1st of June the Senior VCAL students are running a ‘Health and Wellbeing Day’, for the school. There will be a range of fun activities to be involved in, such as football handballing drills, music, down ball, face painting and more. A free BBQ will be provided to students and teachers. What Is in E-cigarette Aerosol?
It is against the law for E cigarettes to be sold to, or bought for, people under 18 years of age.
E-cigarette aerosol is NOT harmless “water vapor.”
The e-cigarette aerosol that users breathe from the device and exhale can contain harmful and potentially harmful substances, including:
Nicotine
Ultrafine particles that can be inhaled deep into the lungs
Flavorings such as diacetyl, a chemical linked to a serious lung disease
Volatile organic compounds
Cancer-causing chemicals
Heavy metals such as nickel, tin, and lead1
The aerosol that users inhale and exhale from e-cigarettes can expose both themselves and bystanders to harmful substances.
It is difficult for consumers to know what e-cigarette products contain. For example, some e-cigarettes marketed as containing zero percent nicotine have been found to contain nicotine.
