COVID and the flu
The cold weather is definitely upon us and with winter comes flu season. Our Robinvale community has been significantly impacted by Covid and the flu this year. It is therefore really important for parents/carers to remember the following:
- If your child is absent from school, please call 5026 3704 to provide the reason.
- Free RAT kits are available for collection from the front office.
- Health and hygiene steps are really important for everyone to be following. These include; using hand sanitiser, washing hands regularly, not sharing food or equipment, maintaining physical distancing, staying home and isolating if feeling unwell and showing symptoms, sneezing and coughing safely to minimise the spreading of germs, regular hand washing.
- Students to wear appropriate and warm clothing for school. Uniforms can be purchased at the front office.
Attitude To School Survey
Thank you to all of our students who participated in the Attitude to Schools Survey. This survey is an important piece of data that we collect from year 4-12 students, each year. It provides the school and the Leadership team with students’ perceptions related to their safety, wellbeing, learning, growth, sense of connectedness to the school and bullying. We will use this information to evaluate our progress over the last 12 months while also use this data to inform our next steps for 2023 and beyond.
School Activities
Thank you to Julie Kelly for recently organising some great experiences for our students. In the last fortnight, we have had the LaTrobe information session, the year 5-8 SALT (supporting and linking tradeswomen) workshop and the Australian Defence Force information sessions.
This semester, VCAL students have been working towards the ‘wellbeing of others.’ They have run workshops with Foundation VCAL students, designing and making 300 bookmarks, producing 300 badges, 300 fridge magnets, 300 chocolate crackles and planting 300 sweet-peas. On Wellbeing Day, 1st June, they gave away the gifts they had made, providing every student with the opportunity to take a gift. They also provided a free BBQ, managed by Joseph Mezzatesta, whilst Dion Camera ran a handball competition for the F-4 students and Michael Chittasorn supervised the gift area. Stay tuned for more information regarding upcoming fundraising activities.
Next time you are in the F-4 Community, check out the beautiful piece of art work that was created by the students in F-4, to celebrate Reconciliation Week.
We are very happy to welcome back Mrs Merlin to Robinvale College. Mrs Merlin will be helping students across F-6 with their reading, every Thursday.
Thank you to all of our parents/carers and special friends who attended the Global Parents Day in the F-4 community on Wednesday 1st June. If you were unable to attend, you can find the video on our Facebook page.
ATSI Advisory Committee
Expressions of interest are now open for parents/carers to join our Aboriginal And Torres Strait Islander Advisory Group. The purpose of the group is to engage the ATSI community to actively participate in educational decision making. If you are interested and available to attend two meetings a term, please call the front office.
School Review
Our 4 year Strategic School Review begins on Friday 17th June, with the opportunity for parents and members of the College Council to participate in a Parent Focus Group on Monday 20th June at 8:30am, for an hour. If you are available to come along and have your views heard, by our Reviewer, please RSVP to Sara by Friday 17th June.
Staffing
Please join me in farewelling Chris Dawes at the end of the term. Chris has been a valued member of our Robinvale College community, as a primary school teacher. She has made the decision to retire from teaching and will finish up at the end of this term. Mrs Rikki Johnson and Ms Janice Purcell will step in as the 4A teacher replacements, while we advertise for a new teacher.
We would also like to farewell Tehan Kelleher, who has made the decision to retire from the Community Liaision Officer role, shared across Robinvale College and St Marys. Both schools are currently advertising this vacancy, to start the beginning of Term 3.
We wish both of these staff all the best for the next stage of their life journeys and sincerely thank them for their contributions to our College.
Congratulations Raaj
Last year Hatigraaj (Raaj) Muanandy was one of three lucky students to be awarded a Robinvale Golf Club ‘VET’ Scholarship, valued at $1,500. These scholarship were awarded to students entering Year 10 or Year 11 in 2022 and who had enrolled to undertake a VET course in Hospitality.
Through RTTC (Riverside Trade Training Centre, Mildura) Raaj started off 2022 studying Certificate II in Hospitality, however has recently switched over to Certificate II in Kitchen Operations, such is his love for this field of work.
To assist Raaj in his studies, he recently purchased an Apple Macbook Air laptop with some of the scholarship money he was awarded.
Raaj is pictured below with his laptop. Raaj, along with the Robinvale College, would like to thank the Robinvale Golf Club for their support to our students in providing these VET Scholarships to assist our students with their course studies. Thankyou!
Enviro Edu visit
Students from 3/4 and 7/8 classes along with senior students were lucky enough to have some special visitors from all around Australia! students were able to meet a handful of Australia’s native invertebrates, birds, reptiles and mammals. They had an eventful, informative day learning all about the animals’ habitats and their important roles in our ecosystems. We are very appreciative for Sarah from EnviroEDU who introduced our new feathery, furry and scaly friends.
STRUCTURED WORK PLACEMENTS
VCAL students as part of their certificates, take part in the Structured Work Placement program every Thursday. Each placement runs over 10 weeks and is an important component of their VCAL certificates in experiencing real work life. We are very fortunate here at the Robinvale College that our local businesses are a huge support to our program and students. Pictured are just some of the students out on placement currently, Shaban Alami – Aroona Farms (pictured with his Supervisor Luke Benham) Cyrus Lloyd – Select Harvests (pictured with his Supervisor Haydn Falconer).
Year 10 Work Experience
Our Year 10 students took part in work experience around Robinvale and Mildura. This was a wonderful opportunity for our students to get a feel for possible career pathways as they enter their final years of schooling. Thank you to all of the local businesses, that had our students for the week, it was an amazing experience for all.
