The Grapevine 22nd July 2022
Principal's Report
Welcome to Term 3. It was a joy to hold a whole school assembly again on Monday 18th July and have all of our staff and students together. We will have another whole school assembly later this term. We look forward to the day that we can invite parents and community members in for our assemblies.
Congratulations to all of the students who received attendance and positive behaviour awards. We are proud of you.
Thank you to all of the parents, community partners and students who participated in the School Review focus groups at the end of last term. This important feedback is being collated by the Reviewer and will form part of the Review Report that will be presented to the school community later this term, and importantly, inform our strategic plan for the next 4 years.
A reminder that it is peak cold and flu season this term. Please make sure your child is wearing warm uniform clothing, available for purchase from the front office and you remind your child about the importance of hand hygiene and staying healthy. It is recommended that children, 8 years and over, wear masks inside. Students who catch the bus to and from school are required to wear a mask, while on the bus. Free RAT kits will be available for the rest of this term, from the front office, so please come and collect one, if you need it.
The Department of Education and the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority have introduced significant changes to VCE and VCAL, which will begin in 2023. As a result, we will be holding parent and student information sessions this term for all year 9-11 parents and students, so you are aware of the changes and how this will impact on your child’s subjects and studies for next year. Please keep a look out for these dates and times, which will be released in a few weeks.
We are enjoying being able to offer our students a lot more engaging and fun activities, excursions and events this year, now that Covid restrictions are lifting. This week we have had our F-2 students attend the Monkey Bar Theatre performance at the Mildura Arts Centre, our Year 12s attended the Tertiary Information Session in Mildura, while our Year 10 students attended a Defence Force presentation and our Year 4-6 Clontarf students attended the Swan Hill camp.
Next week we will have free performances at school, with our F-8 students watching a Pinocchio performance, while our Year 5-12 students attend the Show Some Respect performance. Our F-6 students will also be participating in the Futsal (indoor soccer) Workshop.
A reminder that we will be phasing out Skoolbag this term. Do you have Compass and Schoolzine on your mobile phone or computer? A parent installation guide for Schoolzine is available here: https://www.schoolzine.com/szapp-installation
Please see the instructions in this newsletter explaining how to download and use Compass. Hard copy guides can be collected from the front office or sent by email, upon request.
This term we will have a pupil free day on Monday 22nd August.
Do you know someone who wants to enrol their child in to Robinvale College for 2023? School tours and enrolment meetings can be organised at any time, by calling the front office on 5026 3704.

Principal
Vale, Past Vice Principal Mr Rowe
Recently, education and the community of Robinvale lost a well-loved and respected community member with the death of Mr Gerry Rowe. Mr Rowe came to Robinvale in 1972 and held the position of Vice Principal of Robinvale High School, later Robinvale Secondary College, until his retirement. Mr Rowe treated all students with respect and always saw the best in them. He believed that every one deserved a second chance. Students also respected him, sensing that he was a “very good human being”. He helped a great many students navigate their way through some very difficult times, encouraging them and giving them a sense of worth. Staff also appreciated his happy disposition and benefited from his generosity of spirit and encouragement. Testimony to Mr Rowe’s wonderful contribution to the history of our school is the multitude of comments former students, staff and community members have posted on social media.
“Big loss. Mr Rowe was one of the most warm and wonderful people you could ever meet.”
“You were a great teacher and understood my generation growing up.”
“Sadly missed by multiple generations of Robinvale locals.”
“I will remember him as a teacher of substance and a gentleman.”
“Gerry was certainly one of the great teachers at RHS and kept many kids on the right path.”
“Such a lovely man, remember his smile well. A man of kind words and deeds.”
“Mr Rowe was one of the best. Always spoke to students with respect.”
“RIP SIR”
“Always to be remembered fondly.”
The College extend their condolences to the Rowe family on the recent passing of Gerald Rowe, past Deputy Principal of Robinvale High School.
We would also like to take this opportunity remember Pat Draper.
Pat Draper was known to many in Robinvale as a midwife and Maternal/Child nurse but she was also one of the participants in the “Seniors in Schools” Program at Robinvale Consolidated School, now Robinvale College. The program was developed to support regular student reading along with other participants including Mary Merlin, Shirley Irving and Marie Mengler. Pat also became a surrogate grandparent for some students, who didn’t have grandparents living nearby and loved being invited to Grandparents Day. Lots of fond memories
Condolences to Craig and Therese, their children and the wider Draper family and friends.
