The Grapevine Newsletter 24-02-2023
Principal Desk
I’m not sure if you feel the same, but it feels like time is whizzing by with one week blending into the next. It is probably because there is a lot going on.
Since the last newsletter we’ve had school photos, the Koorie boys have been inducted into Clontarf, the student leaders were inducted, we held our swimming carnival, this week the Koorie Girls Academy students participated in a Culture & Waterways Incursion and our year P-3 students got their eyes checked as part of the Glasses for Kids Program. Next week our year 9/10 students are heading to Melbourne for their camp.
The highlights for me so far have been the School Leaders Induction ceremony and the swimming carnival. Contributing to the development of future leaders is a passion of mine. With or without a badge every student is a leader, this year a goal will be to make sure that students find their voice and contribute to making Robinvale College a school of which they are proud.
Our students were absolute champions at the swimming carnival. I admire every single swimmer for their effort on the day, so many of our students put in 100%, even if swimming wasn’t their thing. The Year 12s looked amazing in their house colours and the House Captains did an amazing job of motivating their team mates. We were joined by quite a few parents on the day, I enjoyed meeting them. Anthony Henderson coordinated the well organised event and was supported by our wonderful staff. It was a fantastic day, I encourage parents and extended family to attend future whole school events.
Your children may have let you know that students with long hair are being asked to wear their hair back. The reason we’ve implemented this change is to prevent injury that could happen in subjects like Physical Education, Technology, and Science. We are also teaching students not to wear hats or caps in doors. Students will learn that there are different expectations for different settings.
The real challenge will be the management of mobile phones. In 2019 the Department of Education introduced the Mobile Phone Policy. It has been mandated that all students do not have their mobile phones in their possession at school. The momentum established in the initial stages of the introduction of this policy was lost during the Covid Years. Unfortunately, some students are forcing action to adhere to the State wide policy because of their irresponsible use during lessons and at break times.
I’m asking for your support to maintain school safety. The use of mobile phones will be banned at school from next term. If students must bring their phones to school they will be asked to leave their phones at the front office. There are a couple of things you can do to help your child prepare for this change. You could arrange a bank card of some kind if your child uses their e wallet at the canteen, payments using phones will not be accepted at the canteen from next term. Also, if your child listens to music to remain focussed in class it would be a good idea to buy an Ipod.

Inter -School Basketball Tournament
Are you interested in helping to build a new school basketball team and tournament? Then this is your chance to get involved and make a difference!
At Robinvale College, we are looking for community members, staff and year 10-12 students who are passionate about basketball and want to help build a new school team. We are in need of coaches, advertisers, managers, referees or anyone who is interested in helping out in any way they can.
The goal of this new team is to create a friendly basketball tournament with nearby schools and bring our communities together. This is a great opportunity for students to showcase their basketball skills and have a lot of fun. It will also provide an opportunity for students to learn about teamwork, sportsmanship, and how to handle competition in a positive way.
In addition to the benefits of participating in the tournament, this is a great opportunity for parents, students and staff to get involved in the school community and make a positive impact. We are looking for individuals who are enthusiastic, reliable, and committed to helping build a successful team and tournament.
So, if you are interested in helping with this new school basketball team and tournament, please get in touch with us. There will be a sign up sheet in the main office of Robinvale College asking for a name, number and how you’d like to help. Whether you are a coach, advertiser, manager, or just someone who wants to help out in any way they can, we would love to hear from you.
