The Grapevine Newsletter 9-3-2023
From the Principal's Desk
As week 6 draws to an end I can, hand on heart, share with you that there is a lot to be grateful for here at Robinvale College. I listen to teachers and student greet each other in the mornings and regularly showing small acts of kindness. I sit in meetings with students and their parents and am very appreciative of how we work together to support their children. I see so much genuine affection between staff, students, parents/carers. This is very special and is not seen in every school. With this as a starting point I would like to begin working on improving pride in our school and the perception of our college. There is so much good that it should be celebrated.
Our staff are supporting students to develop three habits that adults master to function successfully in life outside of school. These are to control their language, to dress appropriately and to attend school with the clear purpose to learn. I hope that I have parent/carer support while students develop these habits. I would like help to teach our students to adapt their language to suit their setting; we speak to each other differently at school than we do in other settings. That we dress to suit our setting. At school we wear a uniform, as we do for club sports and for employment and that we come to school to learn. Learning how to learn will remain one of the most important skills students will need to have to succeed in this fast paced changing world. Most of our students are doing a great job but some will need help to develop these habits. Once they are mastered, our students will influence the positive perception of our college. A positive reputation of our college will hold our students in good stead in years to come as they apply for jobs, universities places and tertiary residences.
Congratulations to Riley and Cindy
Riley Jenner year 6 and Cindy Huynh year 3 were the winners of the Robinvale/Euston Ski Race Weekend Committee colouring competition. The standard was very high so this is a great honour. They each received a meal voucher, a drink voucher and a GLOW voucher.
Clontarf BBQ
Thanks to Ryan and James for hosting the Welcome BBQ on Wednesday night. We had a good turn out of families and staff who enjoyed table tennis, snooker, board games and some awesome BBQ cooking. Thanks to everyone who came along to support the beginning of another year with Clontarf.
Pancake Tuesday
On the theme of food, the breakfast club hosted Pancake Tuesday this week, 120 of our students attended to enjoy the special breakfast. Thanks to Nolene, Rebel and our other staff who helped organise the morning.
NAPLAN
NAPLAN testing will begin next week, thanks to Stephanie Fang who is coordinating the implementation of the testing this year. This week we took the students in years 3,5,7 and 9 through a practice run. The students took the testing seriously and are well placed to complete the reading, writing, grammar and punctuation, and numeracy tests next week. NAPLAN results along with other diagnostic tests completed throughout the year will help our teachers plan learning programs at their point of need.
9/10 and 3/4 Camps.
Since the last newsletter the Year 9 and 10s have spent a week in Melbourne and the Grades 3 and 4 classes went to Swan Hill. All students had a great time and returned to school with lots of stories to tell and all a little tired. Check out our Facebook page to see more photos of both trips.
Please come to the next whole school assembly on March 20 to hear all about their shenanigans 😊
Stay well!

Year 9/10 Melbourne Doxa Camp
The year 9/10 Doxa city trip to Melbourne was an exciting time. Day 1 saw the students visit the Big Issue, explore the city and go to Bounce. Day 2 the students made music at the Arts Centre, visited the Shrine of Remebreance and the MCG and worked on their balance ice skating. Day 3 the students went to the Melbourne museum, watched a film at IMAX, had some shopping time, went to the Old Melbourne Gaol, visited Victoria's Parliament House and ventured up to the top of the Eureka Tower. Day 4: The day started with a visit to ACMI and then on to rock wall climbing. In the afternoon they were given lots of time to explore the zoo and in the evening they went to MSAC. It was a long day and very late night. the students were very tired when they return home that afternoon. Day 5 A little more shopping before heading home.
Swimming Program F-6
F-6 students had a wonderful opportunity recently to participate in a 5-day intensive swimming program. Students were able to swim for an hour each day with Mr Holyoake. Thank you to the relief teachers that were able to help support this program and a big thanks to Mr Holyoake for organising this fantastic program for our students. Early Help Project
Meet & Greet with members of the school staff and our team. You can enjoy a coffee, morning tea & chat Friday 17th March, 9.00am in the Community Centre next to the Robinvale College.
Connecting with Community members is the key element within the ‘Early Help’ support project when worries about family, stress, life pressures or just feeling alone in parenting or community are first felt. Being a parent it’s natural to have both concerns and questions around your child’s development.
Do you have some worries about your child and your family? Have you ever wondered how to be the best parent you can be? Are you looking for connections to your community? Have you ever had struggles to meet your family’s needs?
If so, you can connect with us and we will partner with you on your journey to resolve your worries with options of individual catch ups, joining one of our groups or information & connection to other services.
Our Team. Ofa, Eliza, Jade & Janet.
