The Principal's Report
Dear Parents & Carers,
Welcome to this fortnight’s newsletter. I hope you’ve enjoyed the last few days of sunshine as winter is now upon us. With only 3 weeks of school to go this term can we please ensure all students are attending school every day. Every day they are here counts.
The principal’s report has been written by the college’s two new Assistant principals, Rikki Johnson and Kate Zimmer. Rikki oversees teaching and learning P-12 and Kate oversees wellbeing P-12. Rikki can be contacted via email on Rikki.Johnson@education.vic.gov.au and Kate Zimmer can be contacted via email on kate.zimmer@education.vic.gov.au.
Both Rikki and Kate can also be contacted via the college phone.
As a college, we have been concentrating on areas of improvement that are focussed upon every week. Some of these have included a blitz on phone use, arriving to school and classes on time, being prepared for classes, decreasing swearing and language in all settings, and wearing the correct uniform.
This week’s focus has been to increase the correct wearing of our school uniform. This includes the correct school jumper or jacket, polo shirt with black pants/shorts, and black runners/school shoes.
We appreciate your support as families and carers with this focus.
If you are needing support with this, please do not hesitate to reach out to your child’s teacher or phone the office.
With the weather cooling down please ensure your child/ren are dressing appropriately for the cold. Also, please be mindful of not sending your child/ren to school if they are unwell. This will go a long way in stopping the spread of illness through our school community.
Our new class structures have been going well and we have received positive feedback from teachers, students, and parents. All feedback is welcomed as we embark on a new venture to better know, understand and teach our students in a way that helps them to learn best.
On Wednesday we had the pleasure of Angela Singh visiting our school, who is the Regional Director for the north west Victorian region. Angela met with our leadership team and enjoyed a walk around parts of our school. It was a pleasure having Angela in our school.
Last week we conducted a lockdown drill at school to ensure all members of our school community understand and know what to do in this situation. This is an important part of our school’s safety plan. Thanks to all involved.
Our Primary students have all enjoyed a trip to the Mildura Arts Centre over the past couple of weeks. Our F-2 students watched a stage show of Possum Magic, whilst our 3-6 students saw The Twits come to life. Overall, our students thoroughly enjoyed their excursions out for the day.
This week our year 10 Students have been out in the workforce completing a week of Work Experience in Robinvale and surrounding areas. Thank you to all businesses who have taken our student’s on and well done to the students.
The long-awaited new playground was finally opened today, and students of all ages have all enjoyed time on the new playground. There has been a sea of smiles and laughter at recess and lunchtime, a great sight to see.
On another note, our new basketball court is set to start construction next week. This will include some disturbances to our yard and play areas whilst the construction is underway.
The end of term is approaching fast and with multiple events coming up we are looking forward to a busy end term.
