Principal Report
A wonderful two weeks have passed for our college.
WOW Program
On behalf of the College, I’d like to acknowledge the work of Tony Laria who, with Glen Stewart lobbied for us to source funding through the Swan Hill Rural City Council, Murray Valley Aboriginal Co-op, and the Northern Mallee Local Learning & Employment Network so that 25 of our Year 7-12 students can participate in the WOW program. Thanks to these wonderful organisations and to Tony and Glen. This is a highly successful program that will make a difference for our students.
The foundations of the WOW program are linked to everyday skills and settings and use participants interactions and their real-life scenarios to deliver specific and relatable lessons which can then be incorporated into everyday life. It is an adaptable program which supports participants from all ages, cultural backgrounds, and ability levels.
The workshop series includes the following focuses.
- Respect & Confidence.
- Anger & Persistence.
- Culture & Language.
- Leadership & Self Reflection
There are a few spots left. Contact the front office if you’d like to know more or if your child expresses interest in participating.
The Beat Performance
Last Wednesday Miss Yates, Mr Taumoefolau, Sam Fangatua, and I accompanied the members of the Robinvale College Brass Band to ‘The Beat’ at the Mildura Arts Centre. The Beat is an annual showcase of student talent in performing arts from across Sunraysia schools. We were very proud of how well the band played. Thanks to Miss Yates and Mr Taumoefolau for preparing the students for the event. Thanks also to the entourage of staff and parents who joined us at the Arts Centre. A great night for us all.
SRC Revamp
Thanks to Travis Bussell, Sunny Handy, and Georgie Kelly for conducting the selection process for SRC membership. 14 students from Years 7-10 were interviewed. These students will join primary representatives and the College Captains to make up our SRC. I sat in on some of the interviews, the self-nominated students were encouraged to explore their hopes for students, and this led to insights into our school culture. There was some very positive feedback and some good suggestions for moving forward. I’m very excited for the work Sunny and Georgie will achieve with our budding leaders. I want to thank Travis for being a tremendous support to Georgie and Sunny as they take the SRC over from him. The students will undergo a two-day leadership in-service next term. This will hopefully set the team up for 2024.
The Science Fair
Members from the college community were invited to join our staff and students to vote for their favourite Science Fair project. I hope you all got a chance to visit the Science Fair in the Science building. The students did an amazing job to demonstrate their learning and their teachers did a fantastic job to help them. I’d like to acknowledge Mrs Brenda Latunipulu, Mrs Fay Mulada, Miss Micaela Davoli, and the wonderful Mrs Aye Dathong for supporting our students. A huge thank you to Losi Latunipulu for helping to set up the displays.
Book Week
The Primary staff and parents celebrated book week with a book parade. The costumes this year were very creative which made it very difficult for the judges to choose the best costumes for each year level. Thanks to the parents who joined us and to the primary teachers and support staff for organising the event.
Connecting with Community
A couple of weekends ago, on a Sunday evening, I had the pleasure of meeting some of our Tongan mums at a parent forum at the College. It gave us a chance to get to know one another and share our aspirations for their children. I would like to thank Mrs Brenda Latunipulu, Mrs Lesieli Afa, Talia Tuitupou, Jess Kei, Siousia Taumoefolau, Filimone, Ata and Latu Lemani.and many other volunteers for organising the gathering. Thanks to Miss Rikki Johnson for standing with me on the night.
I want to acknowledge our Tongan staff who are supporting the students to prepare for their Awards Night Fund Raiser and the Community Garden Open Day. These students are very lucky to have support which is promoting student pride in what their achievements. The community support on school grounds in and out of school time is very special for our school.
Parent Opinion Survey
Congratulations to Katrina Gellety who has won the $100 IGA voucher for completing the Parent Opinion Survey. We didn’t get as many completions as we would have liked. It isn’t too late to complete the survey online, it would be appreciated very much if you could take 15 minutes to do this . If you’d like to share what you think is and isn’t going well for the college, please go to this link. Parent/Carer contribution is essential to improving collective satisfaction with how the college operates and serves your children’s needs. Completing this survey is an easy way to share your thoughts.

BOOK WEEK PARADE
Students were invited to dress up as their favourite book character. There was prizes awarded and fun to be had on the day. On Friday morning at our F-6 assembly, we had a costume parade to recognise Book Week as a means of celebrating our Connection to Reading. Parents and friends came along to celebrate with us all.
AGSTEM INCURSION
Earlier this term, some Year 9 and 10 students had an incursion where students learnt about STEM in agriculture. Students created and used code to program a system that will allow them to measure the moisture level in the soil. This program was run by Agriculture Victoria. Students from Manangatang P-12 College also attended.
L2P PROGRAM
Another successful graduate from the L2P Program, last week Rocco Chirchiglia gained his Probationary licence in Swan Hill. Rocco has been a part of the L2P program at the Robinvale College and says Kelvins driving lessons have helped him immensely to become a safe and confident licence holder. The L2P program is open to all Robinvale College Learner Permit holders living in Victoria. Kelvin from K Driving school attends the College every Wednesday fortnight and enjoys meeting the students and seeing them progress into probationary licence holders.
If you want your child to register to be a part of the L2P Program please contact Julie Kelly at the College.

We would like to thank Mr Walsh for his guidance to Sunny and Travis, facilitating their first athletics carnival . Sunny Handy for being an absolute workhorse and making things happen before and on the day; the ladies in the office especially Georgia McGinty for organising the contents of our folders; and Adam Jealous and Ata Lemani for their incredible work getting the oval into such great condition for the event – assisting with the set-up/pack-up, mowing lawns and marking lines (its pretty hard to run a lap without them).
