PRINCIPAL'S REPORT
Dear Parents and Carers,
This week we say goodbye to Annie Evans our Business Manager for the past 6 years. During this time Annie has not only worked tirelessly to support the school as business manager extraordinaire but has made a special place in the hearts of so many of our students and staff. Annie is going to be greatly missed. Thank you so much Annie and all the best for your future.
National Reconciliation Week – Now More Than Ever
Now More Than Ever, is a reminder to all of us that no matter what, the fight for justice and the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people will —and must —continue. At assembly on Monday three of our students; Latai Masila-Liutolo, Ava Best and Lyla Ikafanga spoke beautifully about reconciliation and its importance for both first nations people and all Australians.
Reconciliation must live in the hearts, minds and actions of all Australians as we move forward, creating a nation strengthened by respectful relationships between the wider Australian community, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Mobile Phones
There has been an increase in the number of students bringing and using mobile phones at school. I would like to remind both students and families that the use of mobile phones at school by students is prohibited. Students are NOT to use phones at school. What are the rules? ‘All public-school students in Victoria must keep mobile phones turned off and stored during school hours.’ This means that students are also not allowed to use their phone at break times, such as recess and lunch. THIS IS DEPARTMENT POLICY. Please see attached policy.
Child Safety Code of Conduct Policy
A child safety code of conduct lists acceptable and unacceptable behaviours, identifies professional boundaries and ethical behaviour, supports staff and volunteers to avoid or manage inappropriate behaviours and difficult situations. Our child safety code of conduct sets a high standard of behaviour to protect students from harm. You will find it on our school webpage, as an important part of policy is consultation with the school community. If you have any feedback regarding this document, please get in touch.
Stay Well This Winter
As we head into Winter, I felt it important to reach out to you. Currently, there are a few students being sent home, each day, from school who have attended school while unwell, attending school while unwell impacts all student and staff attendance at Robinvale.
9/10 SCIENCE
This term the 9/10 science classes have been learning about genetics. In this unit of work, students have been demonstrating their knowledge of mitosis (cell division), chromosomes, genes, and DNA through modelling. Students then applied this knowledge to explain the different roles played in the transfer of traits across generations.
CPR-FIRST AID SKILLS
This term the year 10 students have been developing their CPR and First Aid skills, for managing situations where their own or others' health, safety and wellbeing may be at risk. This resulted in students completing a nationally accredited CPR course in week 6. The students made the school proud, showing great enthusiasm and prior knowledge from class activities. All students that participated received their certificates the following week, to add to their resumes.
LOST PROPERTY
There are quite a few jumpers, hats and other personal items (lunchboxes) being found in the yard and left behind in classrooms. It is easy to return items when they have been labelled. To help staff return items, can you please ensure that all personal items have a name on them. Could parents please check their child’s clothing labels for names as some uniforms have gone missing at the pool and in the schoolyard.
VIC CLONTARF CUP 2024
The annual Clontarf Cup between all Victorian Clontarf Academies has once again come and gone. Held in Ballarat this year, the carnival was a huge success, with special thanks to its hosts at the St Pats Academy.
The boys slept at the Adekate Camp with all the other academies. They took this opportunity to make the most of the camping experience, making friends with the other academies around a campfire and playing games until 'lights out'.
The carnival started on Thursday, involving six teams competing in a round robin format. This meant that every team played each other and the winner was decided by who won the most games. The Robinvale Academy played well, winning almost all our games. The boys also had lots of fun playing against the other academies, showing great teamwork with each other and sportsmanship with their opponents. In the end, although our boys tried their hardest, the winning team was from the Warrnambool Academy. During presentations, Harry Pettit was awarded with the Spirit Award for this year's carnival.
Thank you to all the other academies and our Clontarf partners for making this carnival such a special event.
NATIONAL RECONCILIATION WEEK
To celebrate National reconciliation week, we held our annual soup day this week, which represents everyone coming together and sharing food. We had MVAC joining us lending a helping hand joining in helping serve the soup and joining in with the activities. Our 2 Primary KGA leaders, Ava Best and Lisa Mounga gave a speech of the meaning of Reconciliation week.
THE GREAT ROBINVALE BAKE OFF
The Year 9/10 food tech student baked a cake from scratch, they then decorated and presented their cake to a panel of judges for their assessment this term. Congratulation and well done to all the students on their cakes.
