PRINCIPAL REPORT
Hello all!
Hope you’ve been enjoying the amazing sunny weather in Robinvale!
As always, there’s been so much happening at the College.
Our Debutante Ball was a resounding success – well done to everyone involved. Thank you to our committee for putting on such a fantastic evening. Another big thank you to Jordan Sansai for teaching our debutantes and their partners such wonderful dances. The night was enjoyed by all present, and by those joining us on the live stream.
We were astounded by the turn out to the school tour last Friday as part of Robinvale’s 100 Year celebrations. It was lovely having conversations with past students and teachers about their time at our school. On the same day, visitors were also welcomed into our school for Grandparents and Special Friends Day. Following this, as always, our students made us proud by dancing at the dinner and at participating in the parade, with our Brass Band leading the procession.
Our 2025 Foundation students had their first transition day. A highlight of the day was welcoming new parents and students into our community. Laughter and song could be heard throughout the building – a joy to all involved. St Mary’s has also come to visit our school to help their students transition into Year 9.
On this note, we are looking forward to more transition days for our Foundation students, as well as the whole school Transition Day on the 3rd of December. Another upcoming event is $20 Boss, which was a resounding success last year. We are looking for our 7-12 entrepreneurs shining again this year.
Finally, good luck to our VCE students completing their exams. We celebrated our Year 12 Cohort last week in a final assembly. We wish you all the best both for your exams and for your very bright futures.
ROBINVALE COLLEGE COMMUNITY DEB BALL
On Friday, October 18th, the Robinvale College and Community held its much- anticipated annual Debutante Ball at the Robinvale Community Centre. The evening was spectacular, themed “Diamonds and Pearls,” which added an air of elegance to the celebration.
The decorations included stunning table centre pieces which were creatively recycled from previous years to align with this year’s theme. Over 70 years in the making, the Debutante Ball continues to be a cherished tradition in the community, showcasing the hard work and dedication of both the students and the organising committee.
Jordan Saisi, a patient and dedicated dance instructor from Jordan Saisi Dance, played a pivotal role in the success of the event. For the seven weeks leading up to the ball, Jordan prepared the debutantes and their partners, guiding them through their routines. The transformation from their first practice to the night of the event was remarkable, reflecting Jordan’s commitment to the young dancers.
Despite the beautiful evening, the event faced a minor hiccup. The evening before, Robinvale experienced approximately 35mm of rain and storms overnight, resulting in water leaking through the air conditioner vents and onto parts of the setup. Fortunately, the committee had taken precautions, covering the table settings with plastic tablecloths, which made cleanup more manageable.
Approximately three hundred and seventy guests attended the ball, filling the hall with excitement. With thirty-seven tables set up, attendees were encouraged to bring their own nibbles, which turned out to be an incredible support to local businesses and catering services. The highlight of the evening was the debutantes’ presentation to the official party, followed by four captivating dances set to modern songs: Viennese Waltz: “Until I Found You” by Stephen
Sanchez & Em Beihold. Tango: “I Will Survive” by Gloria Gaynor. Rumba: “Too Sweet” by Hozier. March Rhythm: “Stumblin’ In” by Cyril.
The twelve debutantes and their partners shone brightly on the dance floor, receiving well-deserved applause from the audience. Congratulations goes to: Nisha Whitton partnered by Nazareth Filimone. Ruby Hingano partnered by Simione Masila Liutolo. Suliana Mafi partnered by Falakiko Lanumata. Ileita Bradley partnered by Amos Urquhart-Singh. Ella Johnson-Strong partnered by Cooper Jenner. Lucy Alderson partnered by Nick Neyland. Salotesoko Talasinga partnered by Paula Finau. Christina Ale partnered by Maliu Mafi. Salote Fangatua partnered by Vilivaka Filimone. Bethany Hingano partnered by Shannon Marlowe-Cook. Tahleetah Nelson partnered by Wade Best. Ana Filimone partnered by Lisiate Hingano-Best.
The 2024 Debutante Ball was a testament to community spirit and the joy of young talent, leaving lasting memories for all who attended.
